FRESHWATER KAYAK FISHING
Our freshwater kayak fishing adventure will provide catches of Peacock Bass, Largemouth Bass and Clown Knifefish. We launch in some of South Florida’s best canal systems for finding these exotic fish.
Peacock bass were introduced to the South Florida canal systems in 1984 with the idea they would help control other exotic fish species. Since 1987 these fish have thrived in their new South Florida home. They can be caught on live bait and artificial lures like poppers, rattle traps and jerk baits. The peacock bass is one of the most aggressive fish in all of South Florida. Average Peacock Bass go from two to four pounds with a six to seven pound fish being a true trophy.
The Clown Knifefish was introduced to the canal system by improper release from household aquariums. First discovered in a wild habitat in 1994, these fish have since exploded in numbers. Clown Knifefish are a great fight on light tackle. Once hooked they will commonly jump and put on a show for their captor. Average size is anywhere from three to fifteen pounds. They are a sight to see and an awesome catch in the kayak!
The largemouth bass is a Florida staple. Among all the exotic species the largemouth bass still thrive in these canals. Two to four pound fish are common and six to eight pounders can be caught usually in the Spring. Kayak bass fishing is a great experience year round.
Peacock Bass, Clown Knifefish and Largemouth Bass can all be caught year round and are a blast to fight in the kayak.
